SWP Respect Petition

Chris Harman has finally been persuaded to add his name to the SWP's Respect petition - he's number 851 on the list - a whole six days after the petition was launched. The majority of the England-based members of ISJ's editorial board are conspicuous by their absence, bear in mind that in the hierarchical world of the SWP the ISJ is editor Harman's fiefdom. The petition has still not accumulated 1000 signatories. This is, to put it mildly, unimpressive and indicative of a party machine which is not as effective as its rivals on the left imagine.

Scott Herbert, one of our men in Leicester made the hilarious observation that some of the names on the SWP petition are people off their paper round.

It's seriously mad ... and heaven for all sect watchers, lol.

It is a little strange. And bad bad optics. It raises questions about membership levels. I always think a basic rule of thumb in any political activity is don't start something that will end badly (or more importantly that one knows has the capacity to end in a particularly bad light).

Heck some of the names are of fictitious people to my certain knowledge. Johnny Favorite? Dave Dudley?

Also there seems to be a certain Dave Roberts from Leicester who is a long time Stalinist.

More importantly from my old region many signatories are long inactive and none have been around less than 15 years.

I hope, you will find the correct decision. Do not despair.
