It's proof that in trying to please too many people, you please no one: you can't find a workable liberalisation of immigration law without ruffling a few feathers. These proposals have none of the political will or vision necessary to make a meaningful difference in the long term. Furthermore in trying to mollify anti-immigration opinion with platitudes emphasising just how weak these proposals are, SiC may well make it harder to progress the debate in future.
