No Pasaran!

Not now.

Not ever.

Update:

See Racist Scum Out of Brum on Shiraz Socialist

And say a prayer of gratitude for the awesome power of the workers' movement which has been keeping our streets safe from fascists from Cable Street to Bennett's Hill.

Bet the staff at Bennetts were a bit fucked off to find their bar full of far-right morons though...

Isn't it a bit naïve to use Dolores Ibárruri's slogan ¡No pasarán!, knowing what we now know about the whole Spanish Civil War? "Hemos pasado", thank God.

And this was no "socialist" versus "fascist" confrontation, but mindless thugs spoiling for a fight. The police should just have let then get on with it and hospitalise each other. See http://tinyurl.com/nx4v76 and http://tinyurl.com/r4osnd

All of which goes to show that you clearly have no clue what this is all about, Londiniensis.

Red Maria, this should be of interest http://standpointmag.co.uk/node/2139

Voltaire's Priest, thanks for the gratuitous insult. As all I have to judge whether you have a clue about anything at all is your two comments on this post ...

There's nothing "insulting" about suggesting that you don't know anything about a particular subject. I'm clueless about many things - astrophysics, Latin (ask Maria), Japanese cookery, you name it. I'm just observing that you don't appear to have any real knowledge of this. Calling anti-fascist demonstrators "mindless thugs", on the other hand, is an insult, as well as a demonstration of ignorance of this subject.

In answer to your question, I was physically present on the first (August 8th) demonstration against the EDL in Birmingham, and have closely followed their activities since.

Voltaire's Priest, It is tedious to have to point out for the umpteenth time that other than a liking for Nazi trappings, there is nothing remotely "fascist" about racist Little Englander groups like the BNP or EDL. Serious political activists should perhaps be more clued up on the political history of the 20th Century? You will find out, no doubt to your chagrin, that fascism evolved (or devolved) from socialism admixed with nationalism, and that the Nazis were actually the National Socialist Party (Nationalsozialismus). Calling anything that you do not like "fascist" is, at the least, imprecise, but it was blessed by the loony student left in the 60's/70's, from which so many aberrations flowed, and it has become endemic among a certain type of left-wing activist. It is a shame, however, when thinking socialists do so.

As a corrective to the Burleigh piece I referenced earlier, I suggest this http://tinyurl.com/q2spp5

Oh, pur-leeese.

An article about why the BNP are fascists, which avoids sophistry about whether they're exactly the same in political rhetoric and presentation as 1930s Italian and German manifestations of fascism:
