Who is she related to?

Does anyone know who Harriet Harman's famous uncle was and noted cousin is? A prize of a bottle of the finest wine in my cellar for the first person who answers correctly.

Lord Longford (don't know about the cousin)

...amd of course, that makes the Equality Bill wrong, doesn't it?

OK, Jim. You get half a bottle of wine. A full bottle if you can say who her cousin is. Clue: Lord Longford had children.

If by uncle you mean father's sister's husband, it was Lord Longford. Her cousins are the Longford brood, prominent among them Lady Antonia Fraser, Rachel Billington, Judith Kazantzis and Thomas ("Tom") Pakenham (currently the 8th Earl, although he doesn't like using his title).

Would that be Lady Antonia Fraser?

Darn it.

Do I now owe three bottles of wine or one bottle split between the three of you?

The prize for Londiniensis and Patriccus is a night out on the tiles with Jim Denham, courtesy of Red Maria.

Get thee hence, Londiniensis and Patriccus and find out a bit about the man you'll be sharing a bottle (or three) of Shiraz with.

I used to have fun telling gullible SWP members that she was Chris Harman's sister. But I made that up, so sadly I will have to forgo a night out on the skite with Jim.

Chris, of course, would never support anything as ineffably silly as the Equalities Bill. At least I hope not.

Londiensis: so is Splintered Sunrise and look at what he's been saying.

Incidentally - and I hope Londiniensis is still reading this - Splintered Sunrise's blog should be added to every Catholic blogger's blogroll. I say that it's required reading in our circles. He even refers to The Suppository for heaven's sake.

Splintered Sunrise's knowledge of religious affairs is second to none. I recall him telling me about one of the new crop of Orthodox Patriarchs, or was it a Metropolitan? He described him as "an energetic church politician". Naturally, being a Pole, I gulped at that. Before you know it this Orthodox bishop will be using cutting-edge modern technology - like bicyles and telegraphy - to get his message across and then all hell will be let loose!
