Now their prejudices really are showing

Members of the [No Pope] campaign agree the following view:

That the Pope, as a citizen of Europe and the leader of a religion with many adherents in the UK, is of course free to enter and tour our country.
However, as well as a religious leader, the Pope is a head of state and the state and organisation of which he is head has been responsible for:
• opposing the distribution of condoms and so increasing large families in poor countries and the spread of AIDS
Remind you of anyone?
Like Baroness Shreela "tell the poor to have fewer children" Flather, for example.
Baroness Flather is a "distinguished" supporter of The British Humanist Association and an honorary associate of the National Secular Society both of which are ... members of the No Pope Coalition.

Hmmm. Have these dolts any idea why people in poor countries have lots of children?

It's no coincidence that most of those who are obsessed with population growth are wealthy white people: it's about the only environmental issue for which they can't be blamed. There are plenty of organisations devoted to population control (among the poor) but I doubt if there's even one devoted to curbing the profligacy of the extremely wealthy - those whose habits are far more damaging to the environment than a subsistence farmer with a a large brood.

Not to mention the strange obsession with population control advocates that is prevalent on the religious right, of course.

Nor indeed the strange obsession with taking reproductive choice and contraception away from the poor...

In point of fact there are organisations dedicated to eradicating the profligacy of the wealthy. Or are you unaware of the revolutionary socialist movement?
